Services We Provide
Admissions and Discharges
All pets admitted to the hospital for any reason must be current on all vaccinations and free from external parasites. If necessary, vaccinations and external parasite treatment will be instituted at your expense. Except for emergencies, admissions will only be made during regular office hours. We do ask that you make an appointment for discharging your pet after an illness, injury, or surgery in order for the doctor to be available to you to explain treatments and follow-up care.
Appointments
Our office hours are 7am - 6pm Monday through Friday and 8am - 12 noon on Saturdays. We are closed the last Saturday of the month. The doctors' hours are by appointment only. This is not only for your convenience, but also allows the doctors to schedule surgery as well as in-hospital treatments. We appreciate the courtesy you show us by being on time for appointments. If you are unable to keep your appointment please call to cancel as soon as possible, allowing us to use your appointment time for another client.
If we have previously seen your pet and you are unable to schedule an appointment during our doctors' regular hours we will be happy to schedule a drop off time for you. You will then be able to pick your pet up later in the day. This is for your convenience and also gives the doctors time to treat your pet as needed. Routine hospital admission requirements apply. Emergencies always take priority over appointments and will be seen at any hour the doctors are available. Please call us at 681-4278 to schedule your pet's appointment.
Bathing
Treat your pet to a luxurious bath. Our special, cleansing baths remove dirt, debris and that doggie pet odor – your pet will feel fresh and revitalized. If scratching is a problem, our medicated baths contain soothing agents that stop the itching. Services also include a nail trim.
Boarding
Pets are like our children – we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our highly qualified technicians do the same when you can't be there. We provide tender loving care (such as brushing and cuddling), and supervised outdoor playtime to keep them happy and active. Facilities are available to our regular clients for boarding pets. Regular hospital admission and discharge policies apply. If your pet needs daily medication or special diet, please bring an adequate supply for your pet's stay and our staff will be glad to administer it. If your pet becomes ill while boarding, our doctors will immediately begin appropriate treatment at your expense. Please call in advance to make reservations.
Day Care
Having your carpets cleaned? Keep your pet out of harms way by providing them a safe place to stay for the day. We offer the same TLC and playtime offered to our longer-term, boarding guests.
Dental Care
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Our technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. OraVet sealant is applied to keep your pet's teeth clean longer.
Emergencies
In an emergency situation, dial our regular office phone number, (210) 681-4278, even if the emergency should occur at a time when our office is closed. Your call will be answered promptly, in most cases by Dr. Johnson or Dr. Metzler. If they are unavailable your call will be answered by another doctor in the Northwest San Antonio Veterinary Group. When possible, emergencies are seen at the hospital at any hour they occur. However, at times, emergencies may be referred to another hospital in the area or to one of the local emergency clinics, such as Angel of Mercy Animal Critical Care. Pets qualifying for our Wellness Program have an Emergency Care Card which can be presented to Angel of Mercy Animal Critical Care for a discount.
Fully Stocked Pharmacy
We stock a wide range of the best veterinary drugs in the animal healthcare field.
Hospitalization
If a hospital stay is needed for your pet's treatment or surgery, please be assured that he or she will receive the best and most attentive care. The hospital's technical staff is extensively trained to aid the doctors in the constant care of your pet. We are also equipped with the most modern and advanced diagnostic surgical, and life maintenance equipment to ensure the proper treatment of your pets. Progress reports on hospitalized pets may be obtained at most times during office hours; however, it is usually difficult for the doctor to evaluate each patient and be ready to report before 10:00 a.m., so we ask that you not call before then. Most surgical and diagnostic procedures are performed between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., reports on these patients may be obtained from the receptionist or doctor after 3:00p.m.
